It's just for the U.S. Census Bureau, and it won't last past this summer, if that long. Right now, I'm a Questionnaire Assistance Center Representative, which means I sit at a small table and help people who have questions about filling out their census or didn't receive a census or wants to know about getting a census job. I didn't know what it would be like, since training was so boring that I had to struggle not to fall asleep. I'll be doing this until about mid-April. Enumerating (enumeration?) begins in May so I might start doing that. Enumerators are those people who come to your house if you didn't return your form or fill it out correctly.

Today was my first day. I got the offer and accepted over a week ago, but I didn't want to say anything in case things fell through like a couple of months ago. It went pretty well. I hope I continue to like my new job. Best of all, my first payday is January 31, just in time to pay the rent! :oD

One resolution down, next one is paying off my credit card balance.

Well, then

My boss has been unfired, under protest of some of the employees.

The QM is still acting a little weird, but waited to cut off until I got into my parking space at home.

I finally got to donate the boxes of clothes and household stuff I've been carrying around in the QM for a week for the hurricane victims. Pretty much everyone around here wants money and occasionally canned goods. Unfortunately, I have very little money to give or spend on extra food and my apartment is the size of a shoebox, but I really wanted to help out. I finally found a volunteer organization who needed clothing and household items for evacuees who will be arriving in town today or tomorrow. The volunteers were working out of a little antique shop not far from my job, so I dropped my stuff off during lunch.

BTW, I found out that the local bus doesn't go to my job after 12 noon. So I'm going to have to figure something else out.

Rough Day

My boss got fired this afternoon, effective Friday, September 9, 2005, 5:00 pm (or 1700 hours, as I work on a military base). No one is sure why, but we suspect office politics, which is why our last boss was fired this past January. In both cases, the bigwigs came from out of state and came to the office for a couple of weeks. Then on the last day the axe dropped, for reasons mostly unknown. Almost everyone is sad to see him go. He's a good guy.

On my way home, my car (a.k.a. The Quickmobile) cut off while I was sitting at a red light. When I tried to turn it back on, it would start and immediately cut back off. It took five tries, a hood pop, and one more try before it would stay on and I could make the last couple of miles home. I hope The QM was just PMSing.
