My only New Year's Resolution for 2006 was to do a shoot-the-duck in roller skating without falling over. I've been doing it forward for some time and last Wednesday I did it backward without falling for the first time.

Now I have a new (to me) resolution -- lose some weight. I've put on a lot in the last six months or so and I don't really know why. If you are reading this, you're probably thinking "Duh, you probably sit at the computer/at the couch pigging out all day!" Well, I wish I did because at least I would know why I seem to be about 20 pounds heavier than last year and most of my clothes don't fit anymore. I admit I have a job where I do a lot of sitting at a computer, but I also try to get some exercise every day. Since last fall, on Wednesday and Sunday (and occasionally Saturday) evenings, I go roller skating for about 2-3 hours. On Saturday afternoons, I go swimming for about 2 hours. And on days when I don't go swimming or skating, I try to either go bike riding or walk on my treadmill and occasionally both. (During this heat wave, it's mostly walking on the treadmill. :oP) I don't pig out a lot because to be honest, I'm fairly broke and can't afford to. My eating habits have not really changed in the past few years.

I usually go swimming or skating with some of my relatives and most of them have been losing a little or a lot of weight. I'm glad for them but it's still hard to watch them lose weight while all I get out of it is a beer belly, an inner tube, water wings, and a double chin. So I made my mind up. I am going to try to see if I can't lose a few pounds. According to research I've done over the past month, 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat, and a person should eat 2000 calories (or his/her weight in pounds multiplied by 10) a day. So if someone burns 500 calories more than they eat every day, they can lose a pound a week. From today, August 1st, to August 31st, I'm going to keep track of the calories I eat versus the calories I burn every day and see if I have any luck. If I do, then I'll try to see if I can burn off at least 15 lbs. by the holidays. If not, then maybe it's time for me to see a doctor and get on a diet plan, because I'm scared that if I keep carrying on like this, I'll end up with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, and who knows what else. It's not like I was a size 2 (or 6) to begin with, and my chest and stomach have already been hurting today. :o(

By the way, I believe 1 pound (lb.) = 0.4536 kg. and 1 kg. = 2.2046 lb.. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I feel pretty stupid writing about this since any old person can stroll in and read this and start pointing and laughing at me but I figure if I went public with it, I might be less tempted to give up when I get frustrated.
