I see that George Allen is going to be reelected to the Senate. Every Republican Congressman was reelected and the so-called "Marriage Protection Amendment" passed by 17%. So congratulations bigots! Congratulations warmongers! (I'm sure some people are reading this and thinking, "Just because I hate faggots, niggers, wetbacks, towelheads, and macacas doesn't make me a bigot!") Jim Webb is not terribly better than Allen but at least he doesn't support sending a bunch of people he doesn't give a flying @#$% about to die in a bogus war.

I'm proud of my own city Norfolk though. They voted overwhelmingly Democratic and overwhelmingly against the homophobic hate amendment. As for the rest of them, my only comfort is that I'm sure there are some ignorant straight people who are shacking up and have just voted their own rights away. They deserve what they are going to get.

It seems I get my hopes up every election and every election they are dashed. I think the only election result I have ever been happy with since the 1990s is Tim Kaine (D) being elected governor last year.

I predict that before it is all over, there will be concentration internment camps for gays and probably Muslims, anyone of Middle Eastern descent, and non-Caucasian immigrants.

I'll close with a couple of oft-repeated quotes:

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it"
--
George Santayana

"When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out".

Martin Niemöller

I'm going to bed now.
